Scorpion Tail Gecko (Pristurus carteri)
These babies are currently eating well on a variety of small insects, including fruit flies, pinhead or small crickets, and small mealworms. These juveniles are thriving and active. Please note that the adults shown in the final photo are for reference only to show their full potential as they mature.
The Scorpion tail gecko, also known as Carter’s rock gecko, is a unique and fascinating species native to the arid regions of the Arabian Peninsula. They get their name from their distinctive defensive behavior of curling their tails over their backs in a scorpion-like fashion when they feel threatened. Unlike many other geckos, this species is primarily diurnal, meaning they are most active during the day and are frequently seen basking in plain view. They are highly social and communicative lizards that use complex tail-waving motions to signal to one another.
These geckos are a smaller species, typically reaching an adult length of about 3 to 3.5 inches. They have a bold and curious personality, often losing their shyness quickly once they settle into their environment. They are terrestrial and prefer an arid habitat with plenty of rocks, slate, and crevices to explore. Because of their hardy nature and entertaining social behaviors, they are an excellent choice for keepers looking for something a bit different from the standard pet gecko.
